Hello, my name is Nicholas Staddon with Monrovia, and today we're going to talk about landscaping with foundation plants. So you've bought the house, you've decorated it and now we're going to start on the garden. You know the garden is one of the key things because it's the frame around the house. The foundation plants, they are the bones of the garden and to me, that's where everything starts. It's really exciting. So behind me you'll see some really tall evergreens and these are foundation plants. These are plants which are there for eternity. They can act as windbreaks, they can act as privacy screens and they can act as small private spots where you and your family can have picnics and stuff like that but there's some other types of foundation plants. Boxwood, this variety is called Green Tower and Green Tower is a wonderful columnar upright variety. Really important when you are buying a plant at the garden center, make sure you look at the label because the label is going to tell you how high a plant gets and how wide it gets. For those of you in the colder climates, do I have something for you. This is a fantastic upright Blue Juniper and blue is a key color in any foundation garden because it brings reds, yellows, greens, purples together. You have to have blue. This variety is called Blue Arrow. So these are tall growing plants. So let me talk to you about some of the low foundation plants and I'm really into color. We all love the color. These are flower carpet roses and they make great foundation plants. They can be used in groups of two or three or they can be planted on mass. We have the white variety which I think is one of the best whites on the market and we're all into the colors of passion. This is flower carpet, Pink Supreme, highly disease resistant and does beautifully on the East Coast, Midwest. These are plants that will give you long seasons of color and everyone can enjoy them. They're all great foundation plants. This is Nicholas Staddon from Monrovia, talking to you about landscaping with foundation plants.
