How are you doing, eHow? This is Ronald Kenyatta here with totalhumanelevation.com, and today I'm going to answer the question, what does a shoulder press exercise workout? What muscles does a shoulder press exercise workout? Now just to give you a little information about myself I am a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength Conditioning Association. I am a performance enhancement specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. And I've been a strength and conditioning coach for 12 years in professional baseball. So today I want to go over something that I go over on a regular basis in my field, the shoulder, the shoulder muscle. Now I don't know if you are aware but the shoulder is actually divided into three different muscles. You have your anterior delt, your medial delt, and your posterior delt. And the good thing about this military, excuse me the shoulder press it hits all three muscles. What you can do is you can isolate with the anterior, with a lateral, and with the posterior. But the good thing about this it hits all three. So we are going to demonstrate the movement and just be aware that you are hitting all three of your deltoid muscles with this movement. The main thing with this people have a tendency to arch their back a little bit like that. Let me show you from the side. People have a tendency to do this especially towards the end when it gets a little heavy. Or they have a tendency to start doing that a little bit. And that's not really too bad. You know it's obviously taking away from the muscle but you know the main thing is putting your back in a bad position. So you want to concentrate on keeping our spine in neutral position looking straight ahead. And all we are going to do is press. Alright. Now once again just to review your shoulder muscles are divided, have three different heads. Anterior, lateral, posterior. And we can isolate with the anterior. We can go lateral. We can go posterior. But the good old shoulder press here hits all three. So to answer the question, the shoulder press works all three of the deltoid muscle so. That's a quick segment folks.
