Hi, I'm Barbara Kirshner. A lot of people know me as Ms. Barb. I'm an expert food coach who teaches kids and parents healthy eating. I develop recipes, teach cooking classes, develop products and do healthy eating birthday parties but most of all I like having fun, fun, fun with food. So today I'm making a super easy healthy snack that's kosher. Do you guys know what kosher is? Some people do, some people don't. Kosher is a certain way food is handled and certain foods that can or can't be eaten by people who practice Judaism. So one way that you can find out whether a food is kosher is you look on the label. This granola right here Berkshire Grain has an OU and a D on it, that means kosher and was certified by the people who have the OU certification and D means dairy. So you can only have it with milk products. There's also Circle Ks and other certifications. So make sure when you are cooking for someone who keeps kosher, that you look for those labels. Another rule about keeping kosher is you do not eat pork products and you do not eat meat with milk and people who are very very strictly kosher do not eat on plates that have had pork or meat and milk together. We are making an apple snack that's quick and easy using my favorite utensil, an apple corer and slicer. There it is, perfect apple slices. I checked my container of yogurt and it's kosher so this is delicious vanilla yogurt and Berkshire Grain granola. I can also dip the apple in almond butter, peanut butter, even cream cheese is good. This is a delicious balanced snack that has protein and calcium from the yogurt or protein from the almond butter and B vitamins and yummy whole grains from the granola and of course, the wonderful apple. So this is a kosher snack that's an anytime snack and anybody will absolutely love. I'm Barbara Kirshner. To see more of my recipe ideas visit my website at Ms. Barbskitchen.com or watch Doggities on NBC Kids or PBS Sprout and also check out Doggities Diner, Inc. and remember, healthy eating is fun.
