Hi, I'm Dr. Laurinda Kwan from The Arizona Natural Health Center. Dry flaking skin can be unsightly and uncomfortable. The good news is there are easy steps you can take today to get you on your way to looking healthy, having vibrant looking skin. Step one, take a loofah or body brush and dry brush the area of flaking skin. This helps to remove the outer most layers of skin, reducing the superficial depth of the wrinkles and promoting new skin growth. Step two, use a soap that is less drying. Some options are natural soaps that are vegetable oil based, aloe based, castile soaps which are great pure olive oil soaps and goat's milk soaps are all great options that soften and decrease flaking skin. That being said, I'm a big proponent of healing from the inside out. So step three is hydrate, drink lots of water. Dehydrated skin is more likely to be dry and flaky. Try coconut water. A study published in medicine and science in sports and exercise, demonstrated that coconut water replaced body fluids as good as typical sports drinks and slightly better than water for hydration. Step four, remember, a healthy diet supports healthy skin. Cold water fish, nuts and seeds are great sources of Omega 3s and Vitamin E and both promote healthy soft skin. Step five, Vitamin C is necessary for cell regeneration of all tissues, skin included and vegetables such as red and green chili peppers, bell peppers, dark leafy greens such as kale, chard, turnip greens and broccoli. Cook these foods minimally and even eat some of them raw because Vitamin C is heat sensitive so the longer you cook these vegetables the more the Vitamin D decreases. Add fruit such as papayas, citrus fruit, kiwi and strawberries. By removing flaking skin on the outside and giving your body the tools it needs to heal from the inside, your flaking skin can be in the past. I'm Dr. Laurinda Kwan from The Arizona Natural Health Center talking to you today about how to get rid of flaking skin.
