Hi, everyone, I'm hairstylist, Amanda Shackleton from, and today I'm here to talk to you about chignons and the kind of products you would want to use when you are styling your hair into a chignon. Now a chignon is a very very classic style and it means nape of the neck in French. It's really important when you are doing it for it to be sleek and beautiful and not to be too messy so I suggest using some kind of pomade or silicone based product. You can also use an oil based product, an argon oil or a neem oil and take a little bit on your hands and just very gently brush the hair back. I always like to use a softer brush, something like this, nothing too metally, and just very gently bring the hair back so it's really beautiful and even and then go ahead and take your elastic band and just turn the hair into a ponytail. Once you do that, there's a lot of different ways you can do the chignon but I'm going to show you a very very classic way and all that entails is to take the hair in the ponytail, take a little bit more of your styling product, work it in throughout the hair, twist the hair as you go and then put your hair forward, just go ahead and give it a twist around. And once you've done that, all you do is you take your pins, you go ahead, you put them around the hair, maybe like three or four, put one more in right down here and then with a comb at the end, something that's pointy like this, I just come in and I just kind of pull that out a little bit, just to make it a little bit bigger. If you've got really short hair or fine hair, it may end up to be a really tiny little chignon so this is a good trick to make it a little big bigger. So there you go. I'm Amanda Shackleton and I'm a hairstylist and I've just shown you how to do a classic chignon and what products I would use to style it.
