Hey there. My name is Jay Jones, celebrity peak performance coach and fitness minister, and today I want to talk a little bit about how you build muscle with push-ups and sit-ups. Body weight exercises are one of the best things you can do to help not only tighten and toughen and tone your body but to also create a tremendous mentality knowing that you can use your body to build your body. Now the first thing we want to talk about today is the magnificent push-up. The push-up may have been the first exercise you learned in gym class. Most of us do the push-up wrong though and we don't maximize the exercise because we're not utilizing proper form. So let me show you what a proper form push-up looks like. And this is a tremendous upper body and muscle builder because it works the chest. It works the arms. It works the core, it works a little bit of the legs and of course, when you increase the pace, it works your cardio conditioning as well. So again, we want to keep our chest up, elbows go into the body and then we breathe, push ourselves off the ground with our breath, inhale going down, exhale coming up. And that push-up is the basic push-up. We've got about a thousand variations and the second exercise that we're going to talk about to build muscle is your crunch. Now there is some research out saying some crunches are not as good for the lower back. So we're going to modify our crunch a little bit here. This crunch right here is called an accordion crunch where we lay flat down, we squeeze the legs into the core and then we sweep the arms out above the head. We're still engaging our core and we're also working our chest, working our shoulders, working our upper back and lower back and we move at a quick pace. We're also creating cardio conditioning. My name is Jay Jones, celebrity peak performance coach and fitness minister and those are two good reasons why the push-up and the sit-up are great muscle builders.
