Hi, this is Lisa with danceypantsfitness.com, here at Anytime Fitness, South Longview, Texas, and I'm going to tell you today a few benefits of incorporating dumbbells into your lunges. Lunges on their own are a great exercise for the lower body, for the legs, the quadriceps, the hamstrings and the gluts. But, when we add weights, we get a few other benefits to it. Number one, it immediately helps us to increase our intensity. We're now resisting not only gravity going down, but we're resisting some extra weight; we're not only pulling up our body weight, but we're lifting some extra weight. And then, also, it will give you more of a total body workout. I'm going to work my traps if I do a lunge with some weights. Even if I'm just holding them by my side, just for stability purposes, my traps are engaged. But, I can also do a bicep curl and now, I have all those lower body muscles working and I've got my biceps working. I can work my shoulders by doing a lateral raise, by doing an overhead press, so there's lots of different options that you can do, sky is the limit with this. I definitely recommend it for those who've already mastered a lunge to increase your intensity and definitely get more of a total body workout. And those are some of the benefits of adding dumbbells to your lunges.
