Hi, my name is Leslie Shores. I'm a color specialist here at Maxine Salon in Chicago. Today I'm going to be talking about how to achieve surfer strands on your hair. When I think of a surfer I always think of their highlights being very natural, sun kissed, not contrived or consistent, piecy golden tones. So in order to achieve this you want to ask your colorist to do balayage highlights which is where we paint highlights on instead of a foil because the foil is a little more consistent. So if you want to have surfer highlights, you want it to be more natural looking. So with balayage highlights, it's a little softer at the root and a little lighter at the bottom. So you don't get as much of a line that grows out. So that's how you get more of a beachy look because you can go a little longer in between getting your color done and if you think of a surfer, they probably are out in the sun a lot but then, they're not surfing all the time. So their highlights look a little more natural. So if you get balayage when we paint it on it's just going to grow out softer and easier and you won't need it done as often. So this is Leslie Shores and that is my take on how to achieve surfer highlights with balayage.
