Hi, I'm Koya Webb, Author of Foods You Love That Love You Back. And I'm going to show you different remedies to help get rid of the hotness of a chili pepper. So, first I have a chili pepper here; I'm just going to cut a piece off and also know the more seeds that you have in the pepper, the more hot the pepper is going to be. So, if you're using a recipe and you don't want to have it flaming hot, just take some of the seeds out of the pepper so you just have the skin. The skin will be really hot, but you'll still have some flavor. So, one of the biggest things you want to make sure you're doing, whether you have the seeds or not is really cleaning out the seeds and really starting either with no seeds or using the seeds and neutralizing them with lemon juice. So, I have a teaspoon of lemon juice. You could also neutralize it with orange. You could use sun dried tomatoes or you can use any type of carbohydrate. I have my raw vegan banana bread, but any type of carbohydrate will help neutralize the flavor. So, even when you're cooking, you know if you use a little bit of orange juice or a little bit of lemon juice, then you can neutralize the flavor of the peppers so you'll get the flavor of it, but you won't have it so hot that it's really burning people's mouth. So, I'm going to actually going to take this for you so we'll see what works. So, this pepper is really hot. Alright. So, I'm starting to get some of the burn here; I'll try not to make too many faces. We're going to start with a little bit of lemon juice. Mmm, right away, I feel the lemon juice really working, working with the pain receptors 'cause this has capsaicin in it, all of the peppers and it just neutralize it, anything acidic really neutralizes it. So, I feel it being, becoming very neutral now. And with the orange juice, the orange juice is probably good for kids because it has a sweet flavor, it's not as bitter as the lemon juice. The lemon juice might be too pungent for kids, so I would recommend orange juice. And if you're at a restaurant, it's more than likely you have something with it or sun dried tomatoes, so, let's try this sun dried tomato. Mmmm, that's really good. So, I can tell after the third item, I have no burn whatsoever. So, I'm going to take a little bit more, eat a little more pepper. Oh yeah, that's hot. And now, I'm going to have my bread; whew, that's burning. Now, I'm just going to take a piece of my bread and see if that works. Mmm, mmm, it's good bread. Mmm, and that's really good. And the sweeter the bread, the better; this is banana bread, so it's made out of banana and you can probably also just eat a banana, anything that's going to really calm it down and I feel great. So, I'm signing out, Koya Webb; you can visit me at and learn more tricks and remedies how to live a healthy lifestyle.
