Hello, my name is Sandra Blackie from Freedom of Fitness, and today I'm going to show you great exercises to develop and tone your quadriceps muscles. Upper thigh. The movement that I call the king of all exercises has to be the barbell squat. It works the entire lower body, strength through the quadriceps primarily. And also strengthening the back side muscles, the glutes. Another great exercise for the quadriceps is a backward lunge. I typically choose the backward lunge over the forward lunge because it is less stressful to the knee joint. So it's great for a beginner. Another alternative is to do the lunge walking forward. But as you can see I am moving from the hip and moving from the knee. And this is essentially a one legged squat. Another exercise for the quadricep requires a leg extension machine. And we call this knee extension. So the hips are not involved. The posture is always upright and tight. But as you can see we're working the quadricep, the upper thigh muscle only from the knee joint. Be careful not to go too far back on the machine. So these exercises are hard but they are well worth while in terms of getting your lower body in best top shape.
