My name is Sandra Blackie, and today I'm going to show you how to workout your traps which are commonly known as the trapezius. This exercise is a seated dumbbell shrug. I'm placing my body slightly forward so that as I raise my shoulders towards the back of my ears, I'm actually squeezing my shoulder blades slightly together but mostly upward. So seated with dumbbells is one way to do a trapezius exercise. In this variation I'm using the barbell, leaning slightly forward. And essentially I'm doing the same exercise that I was doing earlier sitting down with the dumbbells. Lifting the shoulders up behind the ears, squeezing the scapula slightly together. Up and down motion. So the exercises that I've just shown you work the trapezius muscle in your upper back.
