Hi, I’m Joelle, “The Baby Planner,” for NestHelp.com. And today, we’re here at Lazar’s Juvenile Furniture in Chicago, Illinois. And, this is how to decide when to put a blanket in the crib. Since 1992, there’s been a campaign to put children to sleep on their backs, called “Back to Bed,” and this has reduced the rate of SIDS by up to 50 percent. So, for the first six months, I would say don’t put anything loose in the crib. Instead, opt for a sleeper, or better yet, a sleep sack for warmth. You also want to make sure that when you do put a blanket in the crib, that it is a crib-sized blanket and it’s not going to be too bulky or create a suffocation hazard. Another thing: People like to put stuffed animals in the crib. This is fine after six months of age, making sure that the stuffed animal is no larger than the baby’s head, and that there are no removable parts or clothing that would create a choking hazard. Thanks for watching. I’m Joelle, “The Baby Planner,” for NestHelp.com, and this is how to choose when to put a blanket in the crib.
