Hi, welcome back to the Cave Camp. I'm Coach PJ at CPJ Fitness in San Diego, California for eHow.com, and today I'm going to show you exercise for seniors sitting in a chair. Okay so here's a couple of exercises that you can do to strengthen your legs while seated. One of them is you can just alternate marching and lifting your knees up to the chest just like this and try to maintain your posture. You don't want to start leaning over and crouching over like this, you want to stand tall. So if you have a chair you can grab the bottom of the seat but keep your posture upright and you just bring the knees up as high as you can. The other one you can do is hold the leg up and then extend the quad. So you get quad extension and you work that quad and just kind of isolate it. You can do both legs, extend and bend and extend where I'm just moving the knee joint only. Okay another exercise you can do while seated and strengthen the legs is calf raises, just keep the feet on the ground, you lift up the heels and drop them. The last one I'm going to show you that you can do while seated and if you have the opportunity or the strength to do so is you actually stand out of the chair and sit down. Now the key is you're going to shift your weight forward and then drive your legs up and drive up and then you're going to sit back down. You're going to push your bum out and control your legs and sit down. So for those of you who have weak legs, you don't want to just fall down. So you're going to come up, shift weight and if you have to use a spotter, use the chair and push yourself up but ideally you do not want to do this and just fall down and a lot of this do this with weak leg strength. So when you come up, you're going to shift forward, grab the chair, come up and then control your way down and push your rear out, the chair is going to be there and you're down. Once again I'm Coach PJ at CPJ Fitness in San Diego, California for eHow.com. I just showed you leg exercise for seniors sitting in a chair.
