Hi, I'm Kristen MacDowell from VivoPools in Southern California. I'm going to talk to you today about how to remove nitrates from your swimming pool. First of all, you want to determine that there are nitrates in them. Usually you would use a test strip like this. This is just a simple Dip and Read one, where you take your test strip and dip it in water. And then, compare it to the colors that are on the side of the bottle. And that will tell you if you have nitrates in there and what the concentration is. Unfortunately, the only way to remove nitrates from the swimming pool, is to drain your swimming pool down. The sources for nitrates could be, fertilizer that's been blowing in from landscaping nearby, or organic debris. So, you don't typically find it in swimming pools, but if you do, it can add to an algae problem. So,the only way to remove nitrates from the swimming pool, is to drain it down, unfortunately, and replace it with fresh water. Be sure you check with your pool professional on whether it's a good idea to drain your swimming pool before you drain it completely. I'm Kristen MacDowell from VivoPools in Southern California, and that's how to remove nitrates from a swimming pool.
