I bet, you never thought a vegan cheesesteak was possible, did you? Well, I'm here today, to show you that, that is not the case. Just because you're trying to eliminate animal products from your diet, doesn't mean you can't enjoy some comfort foods like giant cheesy sandwiches. My name is Kat Barry and today, I'm going to show you how to make a vegan cheesesteak. We're going to start by putting some heat on a skillet here, and I've got this on medium-low. I'm going to use tempeh as the meat in this recipe. You could also make it with seitan, which is probably a more popular meat substitute choice for a sandwich like this. Our skillet's hot now, so I'm going to pour a little bit of grape seed oil in here. Now that our skillet is nice and hot, and the oil's heated up, I'm going to go ahead and throw the tempeh in here, ooh, there it goes. We're going to fry this up for a couple minutes, before we add the onions. So, you want to cook it until it's like, golden brown. You just want to be sure that you're turning over your tempeh pieces. You can see that they're starting to cook on one side, quite a bit. And we're going to cook these tempeh strips for about five minutes, before I add the onions. So, I've switched to the tongs, because these are a lot easier for turning the tempeh pieces. When we get to sauteing the onions and peppers, I'm going to witch back. So, we'll add yellow onion, and we're just sauteing these on like, medium right on. So, you want to keep an eye on it, and if your ingredients start to stick to the bottom, you can add a splash more oil. So, the onion is starting to become translucent, so now, I'm going to add the peppers, and I have here a half a green bell pepper and a half a red bell pepper. Now that I've added my peppers, I'm going to add my savory seasonings, to give our tempeh it's meatier flavor. That's going to be a dash of dried mustard, a fourth cup of vegan Worcestershire sauce, a little bit of liquid smoke. That kind of defeats the purpose of making our, and this just sea salt. We're going to assemble our cheesesteaks now. Here's the ingredients, you can see that they're done. So, I'm just going to use my tongs, and I'm going to place the goodies, we'll try to put the tempeh on the bottom, somewhat. And the amazing invention of Daiya vegan cheese. This stuff is the best vegan cheese on the market, in my opinion. It's made with tapioca starch and it's excellent, it actually melts and it's got a really, really good flavor. So, now, we're going to put these in the oven at 375, for about five minutes, just to until our cheese melts and our buns get a little toasted. Look at these delicious vegan cheesesteaks, yum, I cannot wait to try one of these. So, that was seven minutes at 375 and I think, they're perfect. Thank you guys so much for watching this vegan cheesesteak video. I personally think it is way better than the original meat version and I'm sure that you will find it the same, enjoy.
