Hi I'm Lee Cotton, healthy chef and Pilates instructor, and today I'm going to tell you what is hummus. I'm sure you've seen it before in the grocery store or maybe you've seen it before in a restaurant. Hummus is a Middle Eastern spread. It is made of garbanzo beans or known as chickpeas, tahini which is a sesame paste, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice. Hummus is amazing. Hummus is a great alternative to mayonnaise or a spread for your sandwich and you can also use hummus to top off a salad instead of a dressing. So I'm going to teach you how to make a basic hummus recipe. We're going to start off with some chickpeas here. I have one can of garbanzo beans or chickpeas and I'm going to add it to my food processor. Next I'm going to add some lemon juice and I have fresh lemon juice. I always like to use ingredients that are fresh. So I'm going to use about three tablespoons of lemon juice, adding it to my chickpeas and next I'm going to add tahini and tahini is a sesame paste. You can get this at your health food store and we're just going to add this. Look how creamy and delicious tahini is. It's almost kind of like a peanut butter, yum. I'm going to add some garlic, about a clove of garlic. I have a clove here that I've minced and next you're going to add some olive oil, so about three tablespoons of olive oil, good and once all the ingredients are in your food processor, you place it on and you just chop it and as you can see I have a beautiful spreadable hummus. This is hummus. I'm Lee Cotton, and owner of Pilatesandyourpilate.com, and this is hummus.
