Hi, I'm chef Mariko Amekodommo, host of Culinary Adventures with Mariko. Today, I'm going to show you how to season a wok. Cooking in a wok is amazing. All your food, your meat and veggies can be done in just a few minutes and it's really light and healthy. But the trick is to make sure that your wok is seasoned well. When you first buy your wok, it's going to be brand new stainless steel. It's actually going to be silver. This was silver when I got it. So season the wok, you want to start with a little bit of oil and today I have canola oil. First you want to add a little oil to your wok. Then you want to get a paper towel or an old clean rag and rub in the oil. This is the key to having a good, seasoned wok. And when you buy a wok, it's actually of the few cooking gadgets that you'll have for the rest of your life. Now the oil is rubbed in and I'm just going to repeat the process on the stove. With your wok on low to medium heat, just keep adding a little bit of oil and rubbing it in. You'll want to keep repeating the process of putting the oil in and rubbing it for about ten to 20 times. This is something you're going to have to do frequently when you have a new wok to keep the season process going. This is chef Mariko Amekodommo, showing you how to season a wok.
