Hi. My name is Erica Lugbill, and I'm an interior designer in Chicago. I own Lugbill designs which is a high end residential remodeling and interior design firm. Today I'm going to be covering how to create a wardrobe out of black, white and tan. Although I'm an interior designer by day I'm a stylist by night. I love fashion, I love shopping, I love everything that has to do with it. I think that fashion interprets well in to interior design. It's the same basic principles. You're looking for pieces with texture, you're looking at the lines of pieces, and then you always want to insert a little bit of color or a little bit of pattern to make your outfit interesting. The first thing you need to do when you're starting from scratch is purchase a couple of basics. A basic black t-shirt, a basic white t-shirt. These will go under everything and will layer with everything. So here I've pulled a couple of items out of my own closet. Just basic camies. These have a great lace detail. They have a great fit and they're interesting. Although they're basic and they're for layering they're still interesting and they still reflect on your personal style. So don't just buy any piece you come across. The next part is to find some great tops with either prints or shapes that you love. I love the lace detail on this piece and the high neckline. This is a fantastic pattern for layering and a great neckline here. It looks great under blazers, under sweaters. A typical person may look at this piece and think that it's for summer only. But the great thing about it is you can layer it and make it work for every season. Classic stripes you can't go wrong with. And then again, a great little ruffle detail here, a great V neckline, this is a very versatile piece. Then for your bottoms, I don't dress up that often. When I do dress up I'll use skirts or dresses. I don't love dress pants. But of course a classic pair of black dress pants that fit you great, if that what you need for your wardrobe, will work. I use jeans almost every day. I love jeans, so just a pair of dark wash great fitting jeans. And then I found this tan skirt that you know at first look it might look just basic and a little bit boring. But it does have this tuxedo stripe and loved the gathered waistline. And then the pieces to layer over, I have a great classic black and white blazer. So you can start pulling your basic under pieces in putting these together. And it's an instant outfit. Then you can choose any of your bottoms and put the look together. Then my favorite is this leather motorcycle jacket. You can put this over anything, dresses, skirts, pants, t-shirts and you have an instant outfit and it's instantly stylish. And then when you're building your wardrobe don't forget to accessorize. I have just a few key belt pieces here to show you. This is a great spot to add a little bit of color to define your waist. This is a wardrobe must. I have a snake print belt here, a red and a yellow. Anytime I see an accessory I love, I just pick it up because I know it can create a whole outfit. And then shoes, red is always great with black, white and tan. Animal print, can't go wrong with animal print. It adds interest to any outfit. And then just some basic black leather boots. You can wear these with jeans, skirts or dresses. So keep in mind when you're shopping and you're starting from scratch, don't just buy any pieces that you see. Really focus on the texture, on the lines and the fit is most important when you're shopping. You don't want to buy anything that you don't love. Because if you don't wear it then it will be a waste of money. Thanks for watching my video, I hope you found these tips helpful. To see more of my work, go to
