Hi, I'm Carol Ruth Weber, interior designer and and life designer. You can visit me at Today we're going to speak about decorating an attic. An attic space is your little space that you have hidden away in the house that might not be used except for throwing unused items, that you've, that are long forgotten. So, why not use that space as part of your living space in your house? Instead of adding on to your home, which can be costly, you can actually turn the attic in to a versatile room that can work well for you. You have eaves in the attic and eaves can cause a design conflict, while you could put, you could put shelving in to the eaves, which will create a lot of place for storage, you could also work a desk in to the eaves, if you want to use it for a work station. An eave is also an excellent area to stick a bed in to because you're sleeping flat so the eave shouldn't bother you, when you, with bumping your head. The attic is a great place if you have windows you're really lucky, but they're probably small, so you don't want any kind of heavy drapes, keep the windows with a small like Venetian blind or or something that you could easily open up for daylight. If you don't have windows consider putting in a sky light, sky lights are wonderful, they come fixed, they also come so they can open, so you can some air in to the room, they also come with built in blinds. If you can't quite do the sky light, you might want to think about a tubular lighting, tubular sky lights are very easy to do, even do it yourselfers can do it in mire couple of hours and you really, I don't think you need permits for them or anything, they're just very versatile. Now, the sitting area in the room depends on the size of the room, if you have an open attic that's big you can put in a sofa, you can put in a game table, but you want to keep the flooring space comfortable, so if the kids are going to hang out there throw some pillows on the floor, some beanbags, put a TV maybe where the eave is so you can work that in to the cabinetry. You could do cabinetry yourself, easily, go to any kind of home store and you could buy ready made cabinets, they come in increments of 3 inches, they usually start around 9 or 12 inches. So, when you get these cabinets build them in to your eave, build molding around it, with some maybe dry wall and finish them off with a shelf on top, so it, you have a little shelf where the angled wall is. They can really look very attractive and create a nice little storage area for you. What ever your needs are create the attic, make the attic like a little retreat, it could be a retreat for yourself or make a hide a way from the family, where you can have a cozy place, where you could toss the kids, so they have a place to play. The attic can be very useful for everything, it can double as a storage center plus as an extra room in the home. So enjoy yourself and never be afraid to dance.
