Hi, I'm Carol Ruth Weber, interior designer and life designer. You can find me at weberlifedesign.com. Today, we are going to be talking about shabby chic. Or how I like to refer to it as relaxed chic because no one wants a shabby home. Shabby chic began in Europe with the elegance of their countryside living. They probably brought some of their formal wares that were a little bit older out to the country. So that's why it has a more worn look. Shabby chic is beautiful. You can do it in any size room. In a big room use a sofa with maybe a big oversized slipcover. And it creates a comfortable sunken feeling. You want to add a lot of accessories. It doesn't have to be white. People think that shabby chic needs to be white. It looks nice with worn, when the paint is worn off of the furniture a little bit. And it gives that really comfortable appearance like you don't have to keep everything so perfect and tidy. You can find with accessories shopping at garage sales and antique stores. And you can find different and unique things like trunks to use as end tables. And old quilts as throws. Americans think of it as just white. There could be more then white, there are different hues. There's old aged fabric you can look, you can use. Or you can use fabric that is just manufactured to look aged like linens in different colors. It doesn't have to be just white. It has to be, it should be soft hues, different hues. And different textures work nice too, like crochet pillows or tapestries like this one. And to even use your old children's rocking chair and make like a little painted pedestal for a plant. Shabby chic is just a fun overall design. And it creates a lot of comfort and elegance in a comfortable way. And we all know how elegant the Europeans are even when they are shabby and looking down and out. For some reason they have that formal elegance about them. And that's what we bring into our relaxed chic look. So have fun enjoy being a relaxed chic person. Sit back, cuddle up in your big fluffy bed with all your comforters and your pillows. And just keep it neat, clean and you'll have your shabby chic look. Paint your furniture, have fun. Enjoy yourself. And never be afraid to dance.
