Proper Preparation Before Exfoliating the Face

Hi, I’m Erin Hendley, professional makeup artist, and today I’m going to show you how to prepare your face for exfoliation. The one key thing to do before you decide to exfoliate your face is to remove all your makeup. You don’t want to have product on your face while you are working in product exfoliation, because it’s going to compete with each other. So, all you need is your makeup remover pad, because that’s going to be the best bet to removing the necessary makeup product that you had applied previously in the day. And, as always, we’re going to start and work it into the skin. Since we’re exfoliating, it’s very, very, very important that we are removing all the makeup that was previously applied. It’s important to work with the cleanest canvas possible, because exfoliators work into the pores and we don’t want to press makeup into the pores while exfoliating. So, really work into the crevices and on all the surfaces, of course creating a clean square every once and a while because we don’t want to put already residued makeup back onto the face. Be sure to be gentle on the eyes. Hold it taut so we can get all the product off. And then, just work to the inner corner of the eyes as well. If you have on waterproof mascara, it’s always a good idea to use an eye makeup remover that will activate that and come off because we don’t want to exfoliate our eyelashes. And then it’s always a good idea just to have a little bit of a nice misty face before we go in with the exfoliator. I’m Erin Hendley, and I showed you how to prep your skin for face exfoliation.
