Hi, this is Dr. Debra Jaliman, a Board Certified Dermatologist in New York City and Author of the Book, "Skin Rules, Trade Secrets From A Top New York Dermatologist," here to talk about preteen skin. Preteen skin is skin that's in transition. This is when the hormones are starting to change and the skin is starting to get very oily. Many preteens start to have breakouts and the skin is oily in the T-zone, the forehead, the nose and the chin. What can you do? One thing you can do is pick an appropriate cleanser. You may want to pick an exfoliating cleanser if you have very oily skin or a gentle mild cleanser if you have delicate sensitive skin. You can use the Sonic Cleansing System which I'm in favor of because it gets rid of the dead skin cells as well as the bacteria or if you don't want to do that, then get cotton pads to wash your face. Don't use your fingers because there's bacteria under the nails. Another thing you can do is you can get cleansing pads to exfoliate the excess oil and the dead skin. I'm a big fan of cleansing pads with glycolic acid and salicylic acid. You can get one that has both or pick one that just has salicylic acid or glycolic acid. If you're looking for salicylic acid, you can get from a half a percent up to two percent. Pick the one that's best for your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, pick .5 or half percent, if you have very oily skin, then pick two percent. You can also look for salicylic acid in a mask form to unclog the pores. Salicylic acid is excellent for unclogging pores. Those are some good tips for preteen skin. Also, I want to mention, you always want to make certain to wear an SPF of 30 for your skin. Try to pick a powder or a lotion or a gel so you don't clog your pores. Thanks for watching.
