Hello, I'm chef Jennifer Booker, the owner and executive chef of Your Resident Gourmet. Today, I'm going to show you how to break the yolk of a fried egg. You'll need farm fresh eggs, your oil of choice, olive oil, canola, or even vegetable oil. Salt and pepper and then your saute pan. So turn your saute pan on. You want your pan to be, oh, I'd say medium high heat. And we'll add a little bit of oil. I like to use olive oil. While your pan is heating we'll go ahead and crack our egg. Put our egg in one and our shells in the other. There are several choices for eggs. You can do cage free. You can do farm fresh. You can also do eggs that have not been given any antibiotics or hormones. It's up to you. Same as with your oil, it's your choice. So once our oil is nice and hot, you'll see that it has ripples. And we'll add our egg. Let's add a little bit of fresh ground black pepper. And a little bit of sea salt. You'll notice that our egg is cooking. And we want to go ahead and break the yolk. Simply take a fork and pop the yolk. That allows the yolk to run and it's able to cook with the rest of the egg. Now you simply roll your egg and allow your yolk to run. And here you have a fried egg with a broken yolk.
