Hey, this is Aaron from Eastern Boarder, and today we're going to talk about the two different ways that you can stand on a snowboard. There's two main different ways that you can stand on a snowboard and snowboarders refer to those different stances on the board as regular footed and goofy footed. Regular footed simply means that you ride with your left foot towards the front of the board and goofy footed simply means the opposite, that you ride with your right foot towards the front of the board. It's very important to determine which way you're going to stand on the board because if you are mounted up the wrong way on the board, you could really struggle once you get out on the hill. There's a few different ways that you can determine how you're going to want to stand on the board once you've gone on the hill if you've never snowboarded before, the easiest of which is if you've ever skateboarded or surfed, you'd simply just want to follow your lead there. If you surf or skateboard with your left foot forward, you're going to try to snowboard the same way, vice versa, if you surf or skate with your right foot forward, you're going to want to continue that onto your snowboard. If you've never done any of those sports but you're going to try snowboarding for the first time, there are some other ways that you can kind of help to figure this out. One of the ways that seems to work really good is you can determine which way you kick a soccer ball. If you kick a soccer ball with your right foot, that means that you plant down in your left foot and your left foot is your dominate foot and you're going to put that in front on your snowboard. Same thing with if you kick the soccer ball the other way. The other way that sometimes works is the way that you swing into a pitch with a baseball bat. Typically if you swing in regular, you know you're going to put your left foot forward. If you swing in as a leftie, you're going to put your right foot forward. These different factors can help you determine how you're going to stand on a snowboard if you've never done it before. Ultimately once you get out on the hill if you feel as though it's awkward or backwards, you can always change it in the future but determining how you're going to stand on your board will greatly increase your chance of success when you get out on the hill and let you have the most fun possible.
