This is Melissa Morley with All Seasons Insurance, and today we're going to discuss what to expect if your car has been stolen, from your insurance company. A good place to start this discussion is at the point at which you discover that your car is stolen. Say that you've gone out to dinner down in Seattle, and or any large metropolitan area, and you come out from the parking lot, and you notice that your car has been stolen. At this point, it is imperative that you call the police and file a police report. In this instant, you have got to have a police report to file a claim. At the point that the claim is filed, you will have a claims adjuster call you. Claims adjusters are trained in how to ask all of the questions that need to be asked. They, of course, will ask you for the police report number, and at that point, just give it to them. Then they're going to want to know things about the car. If you have any photographs of your car, that really helps. Also, you will find that with stolen cars, many times, you're going to have belongings in the car. Most people think that, "Oh my car is stolen! My purse was in it! My clothes were in it! My laptop was in it!" Only things that belong in the car are covered under car insurance. For loss of property, that's a homeowner's claim, and the same police report will help you file that claim, too. This is Melissa Morley with All Seasons Insurance, and today we've talked about what to expect from your claims adjuster if your car is stolen.
