Hi, my name is Christina Gavenda at domesticfelicity.com, and today we're going to talk about how to make your newborn sleep at night. A newborn sleeping through the night is a mom's dream. With that said, good luck. I wouldn't have too much expectations for your baby until after about the two-month mark. Some babies are born naturally scheduling themselves. They sleep through the night, they take regular naps and it just happens. A lot of babies aren't like that, though, and it's important to be patient with yourself and patient with your newborn as you guys figure out how to interact with each other. It helps to have a steady routine yourself. If you go to bed and get up at the same time and take naps at the same time, because you're recovering from giving birth, then your baby is more likely to help fall in line with you than if you have a chaotic schedule. It's also helpful to lay them down in the same place at the same time, every day, as much as you can. Remember, they're a newborn and there's only so much you can do. There are a few things you can do when trying to help your newborn sleep at night. Some things are: making sure that they're well fed. Whether you nurse or bottle feed, it's important that they have a full stomach when you lay them down for bed. That's going to give you the max amount of time between when they wake up needing their next feeding. Something else that you might want to try; though I don't recommend getting into the habit of it every night; though some parents find it really helpful, is having soothing music playing. I'm not sure how much it would help with newborns, but I know some moms have found it very helpful. One last thing to remember is that nap times are really important for babies. If they don't sleep throughout the day, they're less likely to sleep through the night. That seems counter-intuitive, but it's really not. The more of a schedule they're on, the better off you'll be when trying to get them to sleep through the night. Thanks so much for watching. My name is Christina Gavenda, and that's how to get your newborn to sleep through the night.
