Hi, this is registered dietitian, Vandana Sheth. you know nothing sounds better on a hot day rather than having a smoothie. Instead of going out and spending a lot of money and getting one that's loaded with calories and fat and sugar, I'm going to show you how to make a healthy delicious smoothie at home. All you need are four or five key ingredients. You want to start off with liquid. You could use either water, coconut water, milk, soy milk, almond milk, the choice is yours. You want to add some fruit, I prefer to personally use frozen fruit so I don't have to add ice cubes to get that slushy texture. You also want to add some kind of boost to it, so either cayenne or cocoa or flax seeds, omega 3 fats that are in chia seeds. Those would be good additions. You also want to add some protein to your smoothie so either add some non-fat Greek yogurt or protein powder. So today I'm going to make you one of my favorite smoothies. It's a green smoothie. So we start off by adding liquid and adding some soy milk. That way I can make this recipe vegan. I'm going to next add my frozen fruit. I have pineapple and mango. I'm going to add half a banana and here is the fun part. I'm going to add some fresh kale and I know you're going to be surprised I'm adding vegetables to my smoothie but trust me it tastes delicious. You're not going to really taste it, and just squish it in all the way. I'm going to add some protein powder, a little bit of flax seed meal to get some omega 3 fats in there and I'm going to add some ginger to mine and a piece of lime, actually a couple pieces. And we're going to now start blending this for about 45 seconds until you get the consistency you want. So this is how you get started making a green smoothie. Now that it's been blending for about 45 seconds it's perfect. All you have to do is just pour it into a cup and enjoy, a delicious tropical green smoothie.
