Hi, I'm Brian Lipstein, President of Henry A Davidsen, and we're here to talk about how to care for a new wool suit. So you just bought a brand new wool suit, it should be an investment, and you wanna know how to care for it. First of all, make sure it's always hung up on appropriate hangers. After wearing it, you wanna make sure the first thing you do is hang it up, and let it hang outside of your wardrobe or closet for at least 24 hours so that any vapor or smell from the day has the chance to evaporate. If you have a horsehair brush, you wanna brush down the suit as soon as you take it off and hang it up, and that will brush and dirt off of it. Most of us should know that wool is a dry clean only fabric. Wool is very sensitive to heat, so if it were exposed to heat it would shrink. We wanna make sure that we don't try to launder or dry the suit ourselves. When dry cleaning the suit, you wanna make sure you do choose a good dry cleaner, one that dries on, or dry cleans on premises is a good first sign of a more quality cleaner, but you also wanna ask about the chemicals they use in cleaning. If they tell you they use Perk, you wanna try to find another cleaner. When cleaning the suit, you wanna really dry clean a suit two to three times a year and no more than that. If you hang the suit up correctly, let it dry, let it breathe, brush it down, you should be able to extend the life of your suit, and even a cheaper suit should last you five to seven years, a more expensive handmade suit should last you for 20 to 30 years, or even the rest of your life when worn and cared for properly. Again, I'm Brian Lipstein, and there's a few tips on how to care for a wool suit.
