Hello, I'm Bruce Hurwitz, president and CEO of Hurwitz Strategic Staffing. You can find me on the web at www.hsstaffing.com. Activities that look good on a teacher's resume. School administrators like all employers are looking for candidates who make them look good. What does that mean? First and foremost, being able to show on a resume that your class averages were higher than the school's averages. In other words, 90 percent of your students went on to college while the school's average was only 75 percent. Or 100 percent of your students advanced to the next grade while the school's average was only 90 percent. Additionally, anything that shows that you have experience with image control such as successfully presenting to the board or to the PTA. And then there are the extracurricular activities that produce revenue for the school. For example, have you organized a car wash or a bike sale to get funding for a school trip? Or perhaps you took responsibility for the school play and you had excellent ticket sales. And of course there's always coaching. School administrators want teachers who are excellent educators and willing to go the extra mile. That's what you need to show on your resume, subjective, verifiable proof that your students excel and that you give 110 percent. Thank you very much.
