Hello, I'm Dr. Cindy Bunin with Drcindybunin.com. Today, I'm here to discuss how to calm a new mother. You know when you have that baby it's exciting but it's also really scary and you can be really overwhelmed by everything that's going on. So this is about taking time for yourself. The first thing you need to do is to breathe. When you are feeling overwhelmed and that baby is crying and you don't know what to do, just take a minute and take in a deep breath. As silly as it sounds, breathing for 30 to 60 seconds can really help just calm your nerves. The next thing that's important is make sure you take time to pamper yourself, take a bath, pamper yourself, have somebody come over and give you a manicure and a pedicure. Make sure you take some time for you. The other thing that's important is don't over schedule yourself. You make plans to have people over, to go out, to go shopping, don't. Once you start over scheduling yourself you're going to become exhausted. Don't do it, just take care of you. The next thing is get a support system. Find friends and family you can talk to about anything that's bothering you that's really really important and get people to come over and babysit and help so you can get some time to go out and do things for you. Be sure to nurture things that you love to do. Don't forget about your mom identity even though your mother, there's things personally about yourself that you'd like to do whether it's going to Jazzercise, whether it's take painting classes, whether it's reading, no matter what it is, make sure you continue doing the things that you love to do and the best thing you can do for yourself is to join a Mommy and Me group or a support group, to blog on line. There are so so many now websites that you can go to that are fabulous to get support and information and share all the things that you are experiencing.
