Hi, I'm Jimmy Chang, and we're here to talk about an introduction to number theory. Now, number theory is, actually, a pretty intensive course that's in the junior or senior levels of undergrad, or sometimes it also can be offered in a graduate course in mathematics. But what number theory is, is it falls in the area of pure mathematics where it's devoted to the study of integers. Now, in number theory, oftentimes you're going to be looking at what's called "divisibility theory". Now, it's not the only topic, but it's a pretty major topic. And, what happens in divisibility theory is you're going to explore how certain numbers are divisible or not. And part of what's involved is the use of division algorithms, ok, studies of prime numbers, like prime number properties. And, basically, you prove whether numbers are prime using divisibility theorems. Speaking of theorems, you're also going to be looking at work involving mathematicians Fermat and Euler, because both mathematicians did a lot of work involving divisibility and prime numbers. But, basically, number theory is a pretty fascinating course, and it covers just these topics, and then a lot more. So, I'm Jimmy Chang, and that's a brief introduction to number theory.
