Hi, my name is Alex Cecilio. I'm a graphic artist and I'm going to show you how to overlap shapes and create figure ground with text. So what I'm going to do is start by creating a text box and the way you do this is select the type tool and then you draw a text box and I'm going to overlap my initials so I'm going to put A and then I'm going to do another text box and do C and the first thing you're going to want to do before you even think about touching the pathfinder button is clicking control click and create outlines and this turns your text into a shape. So I'm going to do the same thing to A, create outlines and then it turns into a shape. Now you can drag the shape over and I'm just going to, and then you select both with the selection tool and go to your pathfinder window, and suppose you don't have your pathfinder window, you can just go to window and pathfinder and then, so you've got your text selected. Go to this one, this button which is exclude and hit that and then it will give you a shape that excludes the overlapping areas. And that is how you create figure ground with text. My name is Alex. Thank you very much.
