Hi, I'm Dr. Jena Questen with This is my friend Groover here, we're going to talk to you about dehydration in pet birds. It's a little bit difficult to tell if a bird is dehydrated or not. One of the ways that you might suspect your bird is dehydrated is if you notice if your bird isn't drinking as much water. If he drinks really lethargic and sitting at the bottom of the cage, those definitely are signs of illness which could indicate dehydration. One of the ways that you might be able to tell if your bird is dehydrated is if he has little wrinkles around his eyes, if his eyes seem sunken in or if you can pull the skin up around his groin area and if the groin, if the skin stands up before it comes back down again. That can also indicate dehydration. Regardless a sick bird most likely will need to get fluids; so, if you suspect your bird is dehydrated, I would highly recommend that you immediately bring your bird into an avian veterinarian who can help make sure that your bird gets hydrated and whatever kinds of medications or treatments are appropriate. On that note, I'm Dr. Q and the rest is up to you. Thanks for tuning in today.
