Hi, my name is Cristina Gutierrez-Brewster. I'm an English teacher and today I'll be discussing with you how to make a commercial lesson plan for a middle school. One of the first things you want to do when you're presenting any type of lesson plan is to first define and give an example of the concept you're trying to teach. So when you are discussing commercials or advertisements define commercial for the students, have them also see visually examples of what a commercial looks like. The thing is this can be very short because most of our students today know what a commercial is but you just still want to give them that you know, first little insight into what the lesson is all about. So define it, give an example, you can do this on the Smart Board or on your TV or you may even want to give them magazine advertisements. For the purpose of this lesson you may want to stick with TV style commercials. So after you give the example, divide the students into groups, three or four max and give them the assignment of creating their own ad, allow them to discuss together what ads must include, what are the elements of an advertisement. That can also be given in a handout. The handout itself can say you know, the tenants that you want to hit about commercial aspects, so if it's mood or you're trying to make the audience feel really, you know, like they need this product, make sure you give the handout that specifies what things you want the student to hit. Definitely one of the things could be the product name, what, how much it costs if you want to include that but give that, make it pretty clear when you divide the students up and give them the assignment. The assignment can be quite a few things, you can do a 60 second ad, they can present it in front of the class. I like to stick with presentation formats because it gives them a chance to you know, sell their product whatever it is and it can also be a little fun too. When they're doing the presentations make sure that you explain to them how they're going to be graded or evaluated in this particular project. So if they need to stay by the script if they have to write a script out for you, hand it in, then they, you know, they get points off for missing an important element of the commercial, then just clarify that to them beforehand. Once again those were a few ways that you could create a commercial lesson plan for middle school. My name is Cristina Gutierrez-Brewster. Thank you for joining me today.
