Hi, I'm Bob Holcomb from Apex Automotive in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Today, we're going to talk about some of the benefits of hydraulic brakes. The braking system on this Volvo is hydraulic. It forces fluid from a small piston into a larger piston, and that's a mechanical advantage. So, one of the advantages is, it's easier to stop a car with hydraulic brakes. Another advantage is that the fluid inside the master cylinder, in the caliper, and in the lines, can actually take away some of the heat of the braking system. And, it's important to take heat away from the brakes. Another benefit to hydraulic braking is that it can be small and compact. A mechanical braking system would take up much more room, and would be more complicated and complex to try to keep cool. So, if a hydraulic system is quicker, it is easier to maintain than a mechanical braking system. These are some of the benefits of a hydraulic braking system.
