Hi, I'm Bob Holcomb from Apex Automotive in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Today, we're going to talk about what it means when the oil light comes on when you start your car. The oil light indicator usually a picture of an oil can or maybe a drip of oil, when that illuminates, it's for one of two reasons. The first reason is when you first turn on your ignition, it does what's called bulb check. Most of your warning indicators will come on to do this bulb check. It's to make sure the bulb works. The second time the oil indicator could come on is if your engine has low oil pressure. If your engine has low oil pressure, you need to turn the engine off immediately as when this light comes on it means that the oil that's in the oil pan is not getting up to the engine to keep it lubricated. So, the two times that the oil indicator can come on are first, to do the bulb check when you first turn the ignition on and second, to monitor the pressure inside your engine's oil; to monitor the pressure of the oil inside the engine. And these are a couple of reasons why the oil light comes on on your dashboard. I'm Bob Holcomb from Apex Automotive in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
