What is Twitter? I mean why is it so popular and what can you do with it and how did an escaped cobra, get hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers? You know what, I'm going to break it all down for you. It's time for a little Twitter 101. Life is crazy. I mean who has all the time to keep up with all the latest in social networking? I'm Carley Knobloch and if you stick with me, I'll show you all the tech tools you'll need to get socially connected. Okay first things first, sign up for your Twitter account and choose your handle. You know that's the name you go by in Twitter. This is mine if you want to say hi. Now, what do you need to know before you make your first twit? Well first that it's called a tweet. Second, it can be about anything you want and third, it has to be 140 characters or less so you need to get to the point quickly. But even with only 140 characters, you can still pack quite a lot into this little box. See it's only 87 characters and it's so true. Of all the social networks, Twitter is most like talking to a bunch of friends, except for your friends are your followers and the tweet is the thought that you want to add to the conversation. I'm trying to drink more water. Does it matter if it's filtered through coffee beans? Same thing on Twitter but one of your party going friends or Twitter followers might see your tweet and reply and the next thing you know you've struck up a conversation, you've made a connection and you're getting all kinds of nutritional tips from fellow java junkies in the Twittersphere. You can also easily send images or videos to your followers by attaching a link. See how easy is that? But Twitter isn't about just connecting with friends, it's an amazing way to promote your business. So you can tweet about what you do or share a link to your website or just tweet valuable insights and tips that draw people to you. You'll be amazed how quickly you go from tweeting to just a few people to a whole lot of people. Just remember, be cute, be witty, be informative and that's how you'll get lots and lots of followers. At least that's how the snake did it. So what are you waiting for? It's time to get tweeting and you can check out all our other twitter tutorials at eHow Tech. See you soon.
