Hi, my name's Julia, and I'm going to explain what guarantees that a quadrilateral is a parallelogram. So, if you have a four-sided shape. And there a couple tests you can run. First, if you notice that you have two pairs of sides, two pairs of opposite sides, that are congruent, then you have a parallelogram. Similarly, if you have two pairs of sides that are parallel and they're opposite... so this is one pair of opposite sides that are parallel. Here is another pair of opposite sides that are parallel. Then you have a parallelogram. The third test - you'll only need to look at one pair of opposite sides. Take the top and the bottom, for example, and if they are both parallel and congruent, only one pair of opposite sides both parallel and congruent, then your quadrilateral is a parallelogram. A fourth test, if you have a quadrilateral, and you notice that the opposite angles are congruent, then this quadrilateral is a parallelogram. And then a final test that you can use is if you have some parallelogram, and the diagonals, when drawn, bisect each other - meaning they divide each other into two congruent parts - then you have a parallelogram.
