Hi. This is Alan Hilsabeck Jr., registered interior designer and certified master kitchen and bath designer of Hilsabeck Design Associates. Today I am coming to you from a beautiful master bath remodel we just completed here in South Lake, Texas. I'm going to be explaining to you just how low to place vanity lighting on a wall. Outside of the overall design of the bathroom itself, the correct placement of lighting is very critical, not only the aesthetics of the room, but more importantly in the everyday use of the bathroom. One type of bathroom lighting is the lights at the vanity. There are several factors that need to be taken into consideration when determining the mounting height off the finished floor, or how low the vanity light fixture needs to be installed. First, the type of light fixture is important. Is it an up or a down type of light? Does it have a shade, or a glass globe, such as you see here? If the fixture has a shade, an additional light source may be required for adequate lighting. Next, the overall height of the person needs to be taken into consideration when determining just how low the light fixture needs to be installed. A general rule of thumb is that the center of the light fixture itself needs to align with the center line of the person's eye. Using this rules or guidelines will help you determine just how low you need to install the light fixture in order to establish the correct placement of the fixture.
