Hello. I'm Renaissance Austin, and today I'm going to show you how to crochet this really cute pointy elf hat. I'm using 100 percent acrylic yarn, worsted weight. And I'm starting my elf hat at the very bottom. I'm chaining 59, 59 is good for like teen, a little bit younger preteen, someone with a small, extra small head size. You can chain up to 60, 63 depending on the weight of the yarn and even up to 71, 72 chains for adult head size and extra large head size. So, I'm just going to chain 59, and I'm going to continue in this pattern, for any hat pattern that starts at the bottom. So, I have 59 chains. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and connect and create my circles. A very important thing is that your chain does not twist. There's a top of the chain and there's a bottom of the chain. They look different. So, you want to make sure that the flat side stays flat and that it's smooth all the way and that you turn it and we're going to connect it in the very first chain. I'm going to slip stitch it closed. In this pattern I'm using half double crochet. I'm going to chain two, and I'm going to work around my chain base to create my first row. the decrease is very, very simple. You want to chain two and you're going to decrease four stitches evenly around your round. So, what's important here for this particular pattern, since I chained 59, I'm going to half double crochet over 14 stitches. So, we know a decrease is going to go here. And the same thing, another one is going to go here. So, you're going to continue in the same pattern, decrease by four stitches evenly on the even rows and not decreases on the odd rows. You're going to continue all the way up. And you'll see that it will create a perfectly pointed hat all the way until you get to the top. And your opening is going to get smaller and smaller and smaller. So, when you get to the very top, you one decrease, one decrease and you're just going to slip stitch your opening together and just finish it off by tying in your ends. And this is going to give you a perfect pointed hat. I'm Renaissance Austin. Thank you so much for watching how to create a pointy elf hat. I will see you next time.
