Hi, my name is Gabriel Williams. I'm a certified firefighter in the state of Illinois, and today we're going to talk about children's safety with cleaning supplies. I'm going to teach you a few simple things that you can do to keep your kids safe and out of harm's way when it comes to some common household cleaning supplies. We all love to have our kids that are young ages help us when we're doing the cleaning around the house. There's nothing wrong with this, but let's make sure that we're practicing some safety measures to keep our kids protected when they're doing this. Kids and ourselves should always wear proper protective equipment such as rubber gloves or some type of eye protection when using chemical cleaners, especially things like bleach that are highly corrosive and toxic. We don't want these things getting in our eyes or on our skin. We want to avoid that at all costs. Make sure that when we're storing these chemicals, that we're either putting them up high in a cupboard were our children can't get to them or if we're putting them in a lower cupboard, that we're installing some type of child safety locks on those cupboards. Make sure that you know where these chemicals are stored and that you keep watchful eye on them. Also it's very important to read the labels on the back of the chemicals that you're getting. It will tell you which chemicals are harmful and which chemicals are natural products or not harmful or corrosive. There's lots of natural cleaners out there like baking soda and different things like that, vinegar that we can safely use around the house without worrying about it harming us or our children. So, in the event that your child does ingest or get some type of chemical on their skin or in their eyes, make sure right now to look up the number for Poison Control, so that you have it handy when that emergency happens and you don't have to look for it then.
