How to greet a lawyer. Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to talk about how to greet a lawyer. Well, generally speaking, if you run into a lawyer or you go to a lawyer's office and you want to say hello you would greet them by their name, generally speaking their last name. If their last name was Smith it would be hello Mr. Smith. There is no specific title to greet a lawyer within verbal conversation. Now if you were addressing a letter or correspondence to the lawyer, in the address to the lawyer you may want to recognize that they're a lawyer by taking their name, for example, William T. Smith, Esquire. In the Salutation of the letter you would still say Dear Mr. Smith. Do not confuse greeting lawyers with greeting judges. If you greet a judge you want to say good morning your honor, good morning Judge Smith and you basically acknowledge the Judge's title by addressing them as your honor but this is not a title that lawyers are addressed by.
