Hi, I'm Daneen Green. I'm a professional caterer and private chef, and today I'm going to show you how to make homemade vanilla extract. You'll start with a bottle of 80 proof liquor, you can use vodka. You can use rum or anything else you'd like, and two vanilla beans. You're going to take the vanilla beans and slice them down the middle to expose the seeds, and then you'll just insert them into your bottle and give it a little shake, and you'll set this in a cool dry place for about two to three months, and every week you kind of want to give it another shake and in a couple months you will have vanilla extract. After a few months, your vanilla beans will have infused themselves into the liquor, and you'll get something that looks similar to this. You can use this in any type of pastries or any type of cooking that requires vanilla, and it's a definite money saver.
