Hi, I'm Monica D. Higgins with dontremodelwithoutus.com and I'm here at Thomas Craven Wood Finishers in Van Nuys, California. Today, I'm going to show you how to use charcoal to take a paint smell out of kitchen cabinets. Nothing beats the smell of a freshly painted room. But it's those toxic fumes that really get to you. That's where activated charcoal comes in. Activated charcoal is charcoal that's been treated with oxygen to open the spores to absorb odor. Now to remove paint fumes from your room you can take activated charcoal in the form of pellets, or it comes in bags. These are the same items that you see in fish tanks. So you can purchase them at your pet store. What you want to do is take the charcoal, place it in a bucket with a wet rag and then leave it in the middle of the room overnight. And when you come back those noxious fumes should be gone. And if you want to avoid toxic fumes the next time around use low or no VOC paints to avoid those fumes.
