Hi, my name is Amy Clause. I'm an optician here at Blue Ridge Optical in Roanoke, Virginia. And today I'm here to talk to you about problems with thick eyeglasses. First off they can be pretty heavy and cause pressure on your nose which end result can cause headaches. So that can sometimes be a problem. There are different lens materials that you can use to help the thickness in your lenses and the weight. And that would be polycarbonate, trivex, or high index lens material. Some other problems you can have with thick eyeglasses is that if you have a strong plus prescription your eyes are going to seem much larger and somewhat magnified. If you have a strong minus prescription it's going to be exactly the opposite and your eyes are going to seem much smaller. And again that can be helped by the lens material that you choose. Here is a pair of some thick eyeglasses. Another thing you can do to help the appearance where on these we have polished the edges so you get that shiny glossy look rather then a really wide edge. Your optician can help you choose a frame that will better suite your prescription. I'm Amy and those are some problems with thick eyeglasses.
