Hi my name is Gabriel Williams, I'm a certified firefighter in the state of Illinois. Today we are going to talk about how to turn off smoke alarms. In the home setting if you have a smoke alarm or a smoke detector like this that's going off it could indicate that there's smoke or a fire in your residence. If it's going off and there's no smoke or fire it could be a malfunction of your smoke detector. It's good to get out of the house and call if there's no smoke or fire, call the non emergency number for your local fire department have them come check it out. Troubleshoot your smoke alarm. If there is smoke or fire get out of the house as quickly as possible and dial 911. In a corporate setting you may have a hard wired smoke alarm or fire alarm system in the building. If that's going off it's going to be a little more complicated to turn something like that off in the event of a false alarm. Or in the event that it went off for no reason. In that case you are going to need to call the fire department and they'll have a key to an alarm panel that they can come in and turn off your alarm. Generally you are not going to be able to turn that off yourself. Your maintenance man may have keys to that alarm panel but it's a good idea to call your local fire department and have them take care of it. I'm Gabriel Williams and we've been talking about how to turn off smoke alarms.
