Hi I'm Devra Gartenstein with Quirky Gourmet. Today I'm going to show you how to make stove top cabbage rolls. Cabbage rolls are common cuisines from eastern Europe to the Middle East. And they are often cooked in the oven in a baking dish. But you can also cook them on the stove top; it's really easy. And it's pretty quick. So here I have some leaves, some cabbage leaves. They're the outer leaves of the cabbage. I've peeled them off and then I blanched them by just plunging them in boiling water for about 30 seconds. And I have a filling which is bulgar wheat and just some seasonings. I used onion, and garlic, and lemon, and mint. And you can also use ground beef, seasoned ground beef. So just put a spoonful of that in there. And wrap it up like a burrito. So you fold the sides in and then you roll the rest of it down. And it's really, it's really just a heaping tablespoon you want to put in there. Okay so once you have a bunch of these assembled you want to assemble them in a pan. In a nice saucepan here. And I'm just going to pour some juice in the pan. This is some tomato juice and I've diluted it about half and half with some water. And I'm going to put a plate on top of this. And what that's going to do is is it's going to press them down. And it's going to bring the level of the juice up. They don't have to be completely submerged but it's nice to just have the juice coming up you know maybe about halfway. Then we are going to cover them. And I'm just going to cook them on the stove top for about 20 minutes. They just need to kind of steam, cook through. The filling is already cooked so you're just softening up the cabbage roll and getting some of the flavor of the tomato juice into them. So now it's been about 20 minutes. So I'm going to take this off. You don't want to handle this directly cause it's pretty hot. And there you have cabbage rolls cooked on the stove top.
