Hi, I'm Jimmy Chang and I'm here to answer the question of how many kilometers are in a centimeter. Now when we talk about kilometers we often think about races, will it be a 5k race or a 10k race, those are mentioned in kilometers and they're very closely related to miles whereas with centimeters we're talking about a very short length. So we're going to talk about the differences between the two on the prefix chart and go from there. So first you have kilometers, hectometers which is 100, decameters which is 10, meters, decimeters which is 1/10th, centimeters which is 1/100th and millimeters which we won't talk about too much is 1,000th of a meter. Now, we have to think about the distance that centimeters has to travel to get to kilometers so we have one, two, three, four and five. Now, centimeters has five notches to travel and we're going to the left and whenever you're going to the left you have to think about division. Now, for each place that you're traveling you're talking about a power of 10 so we're dividing by powers of 10 and since we have to go five notches you're dividing by 10 to the fifth power. So basically to boil it down, you have 1 centimeter equal to 1/10 to the 5th kilometers. Now what that means here is 10 to the fifth is like saying 100,000. So this means you have 1 centimeter equals 1/100,000th of a kilometer. So needles to say one centimeter does not get you very far when it comes to kilometers. So one centimeter is 1/100,000. So I'm Jimmy Chang and that answers the question how many kilometers are in a centimeter.
