Hi, my name is Cliff Wallach Greenberg, I'm a producer and music instructor here at Rok On Studios. Today, we're going to learn how to count 12/8 in music. What is 12/8? 12/8 gives you the feeling of a triple meter inside of a duple meter. For example, we count our beats 1,2,3,4,1 which is our duple meter, now if you we're to make this 12/8 you would 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12. So what I did there is I added my triplet feel into my duple timing. 12/8, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4, as you can see the tempo doesn't change, the beat doesn't change, but the feel does change. Another thing we can do, so what I did there is I picked up the speed or the tempo I was playing at and I accented the beat in between the triplets. We can also slow our tempo down, if you notice what I did there is I slowed the tempo down still keeping the triplet feel within the duple meter.
