Hi, I'm Christy Wilhelmi from Gardenerd. And this is how to grow baby lettuce. Growing baby lettuce is just like growing regular lettuce. Only you pick it before it becomes mature. So there's a number of things you can do to make the best of it. With regular lettuce you plant them so that they grow about six inches apart while they mature. Like I have these lettuces planted here. But if you want to you can simply broadcast seeds if you are growing from seed and then pick them all very, very small. So I have seed packets like these which are a combination of different types of lettuces that will make it more interesting for you to grow baby lettuce. Because isn't that what those packaged mixes are at the grocery store anyway? They are all a bunch of different types of lettuces. So buying a couple of bags of seeds, little packets of seeds like this will save you lots of money on growing bags of it from the grocery store. So basically when you seed you are going to plant your seeds about half an inch to an inch deep. But if you clear an area away and then just broadcast the seeds and basically that's just means sprinkling them willy nilly all over your soil. And then covering the soil, covering the seeds with some soil. And watering every single day until they grow. Now these lettuces that I have here are still fairly young. But they are much further along on their journey then as you would for baby lettuces. So baby lettuces you are going to pick, be picked while they are quite small. When you harvest baby lettuces you don't need to pull out the whole plant. You just take either a pair of scissors or your fingers and pinch off the leaves that are quite small. So for example I have a Reine de glace lettuce here which is really tiny. And basically I'm just going to pick the outside leaves. And leave at least four sets of leaves so the plant can continue to grow. It needs those leaves in order to take in nutrition from the sun and continue to grow. So you don't want to clear cut the entire head of lettuce. You want to just take the outside leaves. So picking little leaves on the outside, just snip them off with your fingers or a pair of scissors. And at that point you will leave the plant there and it will continue to grow. So you get a whole bunch of leaves like this for your salads. I'm Christy Wilhelmi with Gardenerd and that is how to grow baby lettuce.
